Loosing gasoline is a BAD sign! More than a few old Harleys have BLOWN UP because someone forgot to shut off the fuel petcock and gasoline leaked into the crankcase. PLEASE, the vaccumn diafram in the petcock is made to avoid the need for a shut-off position. If it is not working, REPLACE the petcock. Use an aftermarket if you want a manual shut-off, but do something to ensure that fuel does not leak into the crankcase!
